Pattern: Kingston Robe
Hi Rain City fans, it’s Amanda from LoveCraftSew on the blog today to bring you some inspiration for upcycling! I don’t know about you, but I am always on the look-out for beautiful vintage items like tablecloths, curtains, men’s shirts, etc. that I can stash away to re-purpose later when inspiration hits!
I bought this lovely pale yellow lace tablecloth at a thrift store ages ago when it caught my eye. We don’t use tablecloths in our house (hello messy crazy small children) so I knew it would be re-purposed at some point. When I got our Easter fabrics in the mail this year with a light blue and pale yellow palette it instantly hit me that the tablecloth had found its new calling!
I had already selected a Rain City pattern for my oldest daughter’s Easter dress this year with the Bodycon in a cotton lycra floral design. I knew that the Kingston Robe would complement this dress beautifully in the yellow lace.
I wanted to keep the gorgeous scalloped finished edges of the lace as much as possible when cutting my pattern pieces. Therefore, I did slightly modify this pattern to use that finished edge. I hemmed the back neckline before sewing the shoulders together since the front edge would not need hemming. I also cut the sleeves shorter than the pattern calls for so that I could add a finished edge band to the bottom of each sleeve as well. My daughter is taller than the largest size in the children’s pattern, so I added a few inches to the length of both the Kingston and the Bodycon.
I am in love with how well these pieces pair and am already planning to make another Kingston upcycle asap. I hope you are inspired by this look and will now be on the lookout for items to upcycle whenever the inspiration strikes you! Don’t forget to share in the Facebook group as well😊
